MARCH 2010 NEWSLETTER
BY SAVILLE PENKIN
The good news to report is that
our goal of 560 pigeons has been reached and anything above this
amount will gladly be accepted as a bonus. The maximum that the
loft can accommodate is 600 so we feel sure that with 2 weeks
left to the end of March, we should accomplish the magical figure
of 600.
The pigeons are in excellent
health which has been confirmed by Dr De Beer who has checked
them on two occasions during the past month and is extremely satisfied
with their condition. We are deeply grateful to Dr De Beer for
this service for which he does not charge.
Of late approximately 8 pigeons
have been lost around the loft due to hawks plus a few which got
sick. Fanciers have been notified of lost birds and in most cases,
have arranged to replace same.
Special thanks goes to Saville
Penkin for his passion and dedication towards the loft and assisting
with the marketing and newsletters. Also to Hendrik Cooper for
his input and willingness to help at the loft and especially for
collecting the pigeons at the airport from up-country.
A big thanks to Ulrich Richter
who has made his website available for the newsletter and results.
This saves management the expense of having to mail newsletters
which has become costly. The website is westernpigeonracing.co.za
Thanks also goes to SANPO Councillor
W Van Der Berg for providing the loft with a computer and printer
and also for the labour to paint the loft and
F Hendricks for providing the paint. Also to Nick Greef for all
his assistance with the marketing of the loft itself.
Various sponsors both old and
new contribute to the well being of the pigeons and we thank Medpet
our main sponsor as well as Agricol and Mr Viljoen (0794941260)
of Bredasdorp, who now provides grit from his company High-Flight
Pigeon Products.
Thanks also to Sedick (0796704459)
of Avi Nutro Herbs who supplied two boxes of assorted herbs which
assist tremendously with the birds moult.
Thanks must go to Pigeon World
who assisted in obtaining the PMV vaccine at an excellent price
and also sponsored part of this expense. The pigeons have been
vaccinated and will be re-vaccinated again during the course of
the next two weeks. We thank Tony Dos Santos for all his assistance
in this regard.
The loft has been totally disinfected and with the heat presently
being experienced in Cape Town, it has dried out very quickly
to the benefit of the pigeons.
We are still looking for sponsors
for the Hot Spots to make the prize money more attractive and
would appreciate any donation or trophies.. Fanciers wishing to
assist are asked to contact Yazeed in this regard.
It will soon be time for the
birds to start exercising but this will only take place once all
the vaccinations and the moult are complete.
The management thanks
all those fanciers who have entrusted their birds at the Klapmats
loft and wishes them all the success for 2010.
