ALLFLIGHT CARNIVAL CITY LOFT NEWS 16 JANUARY 2009

“The Final Countdown Part 2”

It feels like I have written the pre race report a week ago already! One thing is for certain I think we can claim that we are the only one loft race in the world that is so kind to the pigeons that we actually take them to race point one week before the final race and then drive them back so that they can familiarize themselves with the route and obstacles that lies ahead, then take them back the next week to now find their own way home, be it by air, road or train!

All jokes aside, this is it, all the various weather profits are predicting clear weather for tomorrow with only a slight chance of some late afternoon thundershowers over Gauteng area, I can honestly say that I am relieved that we took the decision last week to bring the pigeons back as the weather did turn out to be weather for ducks and geese who can swim and definitely not pigeon weather! Tomorrow morning at 05h45 Gys and Nic will liberate the 369 pigeons that was basketed with the help of Charlie Rude, Joe Gomes and Marius Klingbiel last night to race back to Carnival City and hopefully trap fast so that the first ever winner in the Allflight International Summer Challenge can be crowned. It will not be an easy race with temperatures between 28 – 36 degrees predicted and a strong wind on the left wing over the first 400km of the journey home. It will be a fiercely contested race as this kit of pigeons are not used to breaking up into small kits of 2 or 3 pigeons, they have stuck it out together and was it not for the 3rd hot spot when two pigeons broke away they were always 20 or more in the first batch to arrive home, this will change tomorrow as the jump of 200km from the 4th Hot Spot to the Final race will have a huge impact on the pigeons, this jump will mean an extra 3 hours on the wing and this in the middle of the hot summers day predicted will split them up! To every fancier who still has a pigeon in the race I wish you all the best of luck for tomorrow. Not everyone with a pigeon in the race can win or even finish in the top 35 money positions but I at least hope you all had a pleasant journey with us so far and that we will see you back to attempt this race again next year, without you and your pigeons we can not have this race!

The first auction of all the money winners as well as various other pigeons will be hosted here at Carnival City on Saturday 7 February 2009, please supply us with the pedigrees of your pigeons before then should you be one of the lucky prize winners. Also remember to supply us with your bank details if you are in the top 35 positions, should you wish to leave your winnings as credit for the 2010 Summer Challenge you must put this in writing and fax or email it to us as soon as possible.

Good luck for the final race tomorrow!

Herman
