ALLFLIGHT CARNIVAL CITY LOFT NEWS 29 March 2009

We reached over 1100 pigeons in the winter race for the 3rd year in a row, thanks to all the South African fanciers that entrusted their pigeons in our hands again. We all know that times are tough and we expected that our winter race entries would be down since we cancelled the junior race as well as the R3000 race we hosted the last two years, after numerous requests from fanciers we kept the intake date open till 28 February 2009. The last weekend in February saw a rush of fanciers bringing in more than 30 babies on Saturday and I brought another 20 odd back with me from KZN after a successful auction in Pinetown. We are just in the process of capturing the final few pigeons on the computer as some fanciers did not fill in all the info on their entry forms, we will put up a list of PAID birds in the loft by early next week, please note if you did not pay your minimum amount your name will not reflect on any lists as you are not part of the competition for this year.

The birds are in good health and falling apart with the moult, they have all been vaccinated twice against paramyxo and once against pox. We will vaccinate them all once more for paramyxo two weeks before we start road training. They are walking around outside everyday and many are flying around when they are outside, we will slowly start to get them up in the air and flying around from the middle of next month as we want to start tossing the first week of May if all goes according to plan and the weather plays along. We will have the first published results up on our website by middle of May so the next loft listing will be when all the paid birds have been fitted with their electronic rings, this year we will only fit the electronic rings after the first 100km training flight which is scheduled for the second week in May.

The management wants to use this opportunity to say goodbye to our loyal and trusted driver for the last few years Gys Britz who will be leaving us at the end of March, we want to thank him for all the hours he put in to driving the training bakkie the last few years on the tosses and the races. Good luck with your new venture Gys.

To all the fanciers out there good luck for the 2009 season, we hope you have done the hard work in the off season and that the pigeons will do their best for you this coming season.

Herman
