The annual Federated Board of Homing Unions Pigeon Show took place on Saturday 30 April 2011 in Paarl at the Community Hall. This year there was a lot of fanciers from the FBHU that displayed their pigeons at the show. There were about 370 pigeons on the show that competed in the following classes: Stock Bird Classes, Open Bird Classes, Flown & Winners Classes and Yearling Classes.

The head judges for the day were Dr Wim Peters, Mr Willie van der Berg and Mr Leon Anthony. They had the hard task of selecting the champion pigeons on the show, and indeed it was a hard task. The “quality” of pigeons that went to the front of the hall was of the highest. At the end of the day the head judges made their decision, and the following fancier’s pigeons were crowned the following titles:

Champion Stock Cock: Mr Y Moerat & Son
Champion Stock Hen: Mr Y Moerat & Son
Champion Open Class Cock: Mr D Perrins
Champion Open Class Hen: Mr A Rudolph
Champion Flown & Winners Cock: Mr R Carolissen
Champion Flown & Winners Hen: Mr A v/d Burg
Champion Yearling Cock: Mr M Daniels
Champion Yearling Hen: Mr M Daniels

The overall Champion Cock belonged to Mr Richard Carolissen and overall Champion Hen belonged to Mr Andrew v/d Burg. These two fine birds had to compete against each other in order to become the BEST BIRD ON SHOW. After much debating and handling of the two birds by the head judges, the chequer cock of Mr Richard Carolissen walked away with the coveted title of BEST BIRD ON SHOW. What an achievement and congratulations to Mr Richard Carolissen and all the winners and champions on the show. Special congratulations to Mr M Daniels, who displayed his pigeons for the first time on the FBHU Show, and had the overall champion yearling cock and hen on the show.

The fancier who had the most points on the show was Mr Y Moerat & Son and runners-up were Mr A Rudolph. The day ended in very good spirit, and once again the Federated Board Of Homing Unions had a successful pigeon show. Next year we are looking at the possibility of taking the Pigeon Show to Cape Town, and making the FBHU Pigeon Show as one of the events that you can highlight on your pigeon calendar. Big thanks to all of the people and fanciers that made the 2011 FBHU Pigeon Show a success (you know who you are).

Until next year!
