Article Posted 31 May 2011

By the time you maybe read this article we would have had the funeral of one of the most likable gentleman of our sport, Gerswin Matthee.

He was the policeman who was cruelly gunned down last week while on duty. Gerswin raced pigeons in our club for the last few years, and although not blessed with a huge amount of success, he nevertheless enjoyed the sport to its fullest.

Club members were devastated by the news of his death and will sorely miss him. After having sat out last season he was seriously preparing to race again this season, but unfortunately that will now not materialise.

We at the newly formed Kraaifontein Homing Pigeon Union wish to extend our condolences to Gerswin’s wife, family and friends and wish that with the will of God they recover from this emotional ordeal and regain their strength from the many fond memories he has left behind.
